A major construction milestone has been reached on the new $22.6 million Daly River Bridge with more than 50,000 cubic metres of road material moved to the site, the Member for Daly Rob Knight said.
“The $22.6 million project, once complete, will drastically improve the flood immunity for the region.
“Already there are more than 60 people working on-site including 12 Indigenous personnel who are undertaking a range of tasks including steel fixing, environmental management and machinery operation.
“This $22.6 million project contributes to Territory 2030 targets related to employment, and ensuring our regions are connected by appropriate infrastructure.
“The new 184 metre long bridge, pedestrian walkway and road approaches will improve access for more than 3000 people in the region.
“Graders, excavators, water trucks, cranes and dump trucks have all moved on site and work is progressing quickly.
“Bridge piles are being installed on each river bank, and once that’s complete, workers will embed the piles into the river bed. Four piles have already been driven 25-30 metres into the ground on the western river bank.
“This is a huge infrastructure project – it is expected that more than 5,000 tonnes of concrete will be poured during this year,” said Rob Knight.
