27 November 2019
Downer EDI Limited (Downer), as a member of the NEWest Alliance, has been selected as preferred contractor to deliver the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Thornlie – Cockburn Link, part of Perth’s METRONET program.
The project will be delivered in a joint venture partnership with CPB Contractors, part of CIMIC Group and will be delivered under an alliance-style contract. Project funding is through the Western Australian state and Australian federal governments.
The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer had a long and successful history of safely delivering transport infrastructure projects for its customers.
“We are pleased that our expertise in the design and construction of heavy rail, tracks, stations and rail bridges has been recognised,” Mr Fenn said.
“We look forward to working with our partners to deliver this important project for the Western Australian Government and the people of Perth.”
Downer’s scope of work includes railway construction, relocation of freight lines, station platform extensions, station construction and other station modifications, construction of new road-over-rail bridges and other associated work.
Work will commence immediately on design, with construction expected to commence May 2020. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
Downer is also currently delivering Stage 1 of the Parramatta Light Rail project in a 50:50 joint venture with CPB Contractors for the NSW Government.
