Renewal of Bentley-Curtin Specialised Activity Centre to optimise existing infrastructure
WA Government:
A new plan is set to guide future growth in the
Bentley-Curtin area to harness its role as an innovation and knowledge
precinct.
The Bentley-Curtin Specialised Activity Centre Plan sets out to optimise
the precinct's strengths and enable diversification to create more
employment and enterprise opportunities.
The Bentley-Curtin Activity Centre is already home to significant
economic, knowledge industry and commercial activity including
Curtin
University,
CSIRO and government departments.
The area's existing characteristics lend themselves to further
opportunities for
renewal and intensification.
An important principle of this plan is the inclusion of cycling and
walking access alongside public transport.
Enhanced connectivity and sense of place in the design of public spaces
and landscapes are also features of the plan.
This strategic level document is intended to inform further local
detailed planning.
Comments attributed to Lands Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The State Government's vision to create a more compact and connected
city, by locating places of employment, infrastructure and services
close to where people live, is clearly illustrated within the
Bentley-Curtin Specialised Activity Centre Plan.
"Well-considered, ongoing development of this area represents an
investment in education,
technology and jobs - particularly as we continue to diversify the
WA economy.
"Transformation of this area is timely and will stimulate investment,
while capitalising on existing infrastructure.
"The activation of the Bentley-Curtin precinct is a good example of how
we can continue to support population growth in the greater
Perth area in a sustainable way."
