Shape the future of transport across Regional NSW
19 May 2017
NSW Government: Regional NSW will have their say on the future of transport and how to best use new technologies such as driverless cars to improve links between towns and regional cities.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance and Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey today launched community consultation on the Future Transport project to listen to the priorities of regional people.
“There are challenges and opportunities ahead so it’s very important to get out and listen to our regional NSW communities from Wauchope to Cobar and Griffith to Inverell,” Mr Constance said.
“This is about the public telling us what they expect from transport into the coming decades”, Mr Constance said.
Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said there is a great pipeline of projects in rural and regional NSW including the Pacific Highway and Great Western Highway upgrades, the Fixing Country Rail program and the new intercity regional train fleet.
“Those important projects are complemented by the Fixing Country Roads, Bridges for the Bush, Fixing Country Truck Washes and Level Crossing Improvement programs.
“But we need to plan beyond the pipeline of projects and programs underway, because over the next 20 to 40 years we need to ensure our towns are better places to live, work and visit.”
With many challenges ahead like changing population growth, new technologies and increasing freight, Transport for NSW will use community feedback to make informed decisions about how to deliver transport services and infrastructure for the future.
The Future Transport team will seek input on everything from the infrastructure we need, through to adapting for the vehicles of the future, including driverless technology and on-demand services.
Everybody is encouraged to get involved by completing a quick survey at future.transport.nsw.gov.au
Feedback will be sought from 15 May until 30 June, 2017.
