York Civil has been awarded the Early Contractor Involvement contract to create the long-awaited Adelaide EastLINK Tram Extension along North Terrace. The one-kilometre extension which was previously only hopeful conversation, is now a reality and is the beginning of the CityLINK, a loop around the Adelaide CBD, and also forms Stage One of the planned EastLINK tram renovations.
For Adelaide the tram line extension is a developing milestone, which will be constructed from the current King William Road to the future East Terrace with hopes to ultimately develop into the eastern suburbs through to Kent Town.
The extension features four new tram stops, which will link to the Festival Plaza, old RAH, Museum, universities, the library, shopping outlets, cafes and restaurants. It is anticipated that the extension will provide an improved primary source of transport for the community, deliver travel time savings and revive the North Terrace cultural and educational realm.
