SMEC Provides Services for Brisbane’s Inner City Bypass Upgrade, Australia

SMEC, in partnership with BMD Constructions, has been awarded a design and construction contract by Brisbane City Council (BCC) for the upgrade of the Inner City Bypass (ICB) in Brisbane.
BCC is improving the network capacity by widening the roadway to four lanes in each direction between the eastern portal of the Legacy Way Tunnel and the RNA tunnel. The ICB is currently operating at 90% capacity, however with the road now carrying more than 100,000 vehicles per weekday, it will exceed capacity by 2021.
The upgrade will help to increase capacity and improve safety on the ICB by reducing congestion-related accidents.
